Petition against US airstrikes curfew in FATA dismissed
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday dismissed a petition, requesting the court to direct the federal government to take steps for halting United States airstrikes in the Tribal Areas, and lifting the curfew from Swat, Bajaur and Waziristan.
“Innocent people cannot be left at the mercy of terrorists,” IHC Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Aslam said.
Raja Liaquat Ali, a resident of Mingora, had presented the petition through Syed Zahoor Ahmad Bukhari advocate. The federation, foreign affairs, interior and defence secretaries, and the National Security Council have been named as respondents.
Ali said “dozens of innocent people are being killed in the US and NATO forces’ airstrikes in the Tribal Areas”. He added the tribesmen were being killed in the name of so-called ‘war on terror’.
